Generator Leaking Diesel – Suspect that you have a Diesel Fuel Leak

Diesel leaking from a generator can be extremely dangerous and cause serious environmental issues. Regular service and maintenance will help to detect and prevent potential generator fuel leaks. However, the following will need to be actioned immediately if you suspect that your Generator is leaking Diesel:

Use your spill kit to soak up the spilt fuel.
Contain the spill to stop it spreading any further.
Ensure that the generator is turned OFF whilst you locate and stop the leak.
Do a visual check of the entire generator, especially around the area of the leak. Look for cracks, corrosion, loose pipes, cracked hoses etc.

Check the integrity of all fuel hoses and tighten hose clamps if necessary. Touch the hoses to check for weaknesses and perishing rubber.
Inspect the fuel tank for signs of corrosion or damage.
Has anyone refuelled the tank recently? Many suspected fuel leaks turn out to be the result of an overfilled base tank. Change your fuel supplier.
Ensure that you have a bunded fuel tank that will contain any future generator leaks.
